Central Oregon Wildfire Preparedness & Prevention

Wildfires are an increasing and ongoing problem in central Oregon. Gordon Foster, Unit Forester for the Central Oregon District, will be sharing with us a brief history of wildfires in central Oregon, and the impacts of the recent fire seasons. He will also provide insight into the changes that are taking place within the state regarding wildfire response and mitigation, including the coordinated efforts being made in central Oregon to protect our forests, promote forest health, and keep our communities safe.

This is a critical issue that affects us all, and ConnectW believes that this talk will provide us with valuable information and resources to help us better prepare for and respond to wildfires in our area.

Join us for this important discussion and learn what to expect for the 2023 fire season, and what you can do to be prepared and assist with prevention.

Speaker Bio, Gordon Foster of Oregon Department of Forestry

Gordon Foster began his career in wildland fire as a seasonal firefighter for the Oregon Department of Forestry and the US Forest Service while attending college. He then left wildland firefighting to pursue a career as a structural firefighter/EMT with the City of Grants Pass. After a short time, Gordon returned to the Oregon Department of Forestry in several supervisory positions working primarily in wildfire suppression, preparedness, prevention, and enforcement. He is currently the Unit Forester for the Central Oregon District, Prineville-Sisters Unit which oversees the protection and forestry programs. Gordon also serve as an Operations Section Chief on one of the 11 Incident Management Teams within the Pacific Northwest that respond to large fires across the West and the nation.
